Business Confidence Index: Downturn in confidence continues

For the third quarter of 2024, business confidence in Georgia decreased (by 2.8 index points) and reached 13.6. The highest decrease in business confidence is observed in the construction (-12.5) sector. The negative change in BCI for Q3 2024 was driven by less optimistic expectations.

A sharp decrease in CCI. The declining trend that started in April continued in May, with the Consumer Confidence Index dropping by 9.5 index points – from -17.8 in April to -27.3 points in May. The decline was present in both CCI sub-indices, however, it was more prominent in the Present Situation Index. Namely, the Expectations Index declined by 5.5 index points, while the Present Situation Index decreased by 13.4 points.

Following a peak in polarization in May, attributed to the adoption of the 'Law of Foreign Influence,' there was a dramatic decline in polarization throughout the first month of summer. This decrease coincided with the successful participation of the Georgian football team in Euro 2024, which fostered a sense of national unity and pride.

June 2024 | Khachapuri Index increased by 2.9%

In June 2024, the average cost of cooking one standard portion of Imeretian khachapuri stood at 6 GEL. After three months of a declining trend, the index increased by 2.9% compared to May 2024. On an annual basis, the average price is 6.8% higher than in June 2023.

According to GeoStat’s preliminary estimates in the first quarter of 2024, Georgia’s nominal GDP reached GEL 18,913.2 million, with a year-over-year real GDP growth of 8.4% and a GDP deflator change of 3.1%. The growth was driven by significant increases in value-added across various sectors: Real estate activities rose by 18.8%, Education by 29.1%, Public administration and defence, including social security, by 13.0%, Construction by 10.3%, Information and communication by 12.2%, and Transportation and storage by 9.7%.
